The Use of Social Media and Its Positive and Negative Effects on Yarmouk University Students from their Point of View

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the use of social media and its positive and negative effects on Yarmouk University students from their point of view. It also investigates the relationship between the students' use of the social media and some social factors including gender, major, and the time. The population of the study includes all yarmouk university students of the year 2018/2019 which is (32549) students, the study sample reached (438) male and female students from various scientific and human specialties, who were chosen simple randomly in order to attain the goal of the study, SPSS was used.

Gender is found to be significant and that female showed positive effects, where as males showed negative effects. Major is found to have significant on the positive effects; however, it showed it showed significant difference on the negative effects for natural specialties. Also significant positive and negative effects are found of the short time usage of the social media (less than 3 hours).
