The Effectiveness of a Program Based on Parent-child Interactive Therapy in Reducing Challenging Behaviors among Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Jordan

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a program based on parent-child interactive therapy in reducing challenging behaviors among children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Jordan. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest measurements. The sample consisted of 10 children with ASD, selected purposively. The results revealed statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) between the pretest and posttest scores of children with ASD on the challenging behaviors scale, across all dimensions and the overall score, with the differences favoring the posttest. The study recommended the importance of providing continuous support to children with ASD and their families to ensure the ongoing improvement of the children’s behaviors.
