Factors Affecting the Activation of the ICAP Technology Scale Indicators in Designing Electronic Courses Using Open-Source Software in Jordanian Universities

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the factors affecting the activation of the (Interactive, Constrictive, Active, Passive - ICAP) technology scale indicators in the design of electronic courses using open-source software in Jordanian universities. The current study relied on a qualitative methodology. To achieve the objectives of the study, an interview form was developed, and after verifying the validity and reliability, it was distributed to a sample consisting of (15) educational technology experts from the faculty members in Jordanian public universities. (The University of Jordan, Yarmouk University, and Mutah University). The study results indicated that the factors influencing the activation of the ICAP technology scale indicators in designing e-courses using open-source software at Jordanian universities included the role of e-course design in developing and exchanging instructional design ideas for digital content among faculty members. This was determined by the clarity of the program's educational objectives and the alignment of its content with ICAP indicators. Regarding faculty members' motivation toward e-course design, the highest-rated factor was the flexibility of program design to meet trainees' needs. As for the presence of a comprehensive technological plan in e-course design for teaching, the key factor was the availability of a suitable technical infrastructure to support program implementation, along with adherence to global quality standards. In light of these findings, the study recommended providing continuous training for faculty members on using open-source software in e-course design following the ICAP scale and modern e-learning technologies.
