Emotional Intelligence and its relation to _ersonalitu Traits and Academic Achievement among Jordan University Students

The study aimFed to reveal the relationship of emotional intelligence to personality traits and academic achievement among University of Jordan students. The descriptive methodology was used to suit the purposes of the study. The study sample consisted of (352) randomly chosen university students. The results showed that social communication scored high, empathy, emotional knowledge, and emotional regulation were at a moderate level as the dimensions of emotional intelligence, which scored medium in general among students at the University of Jordan. While the results showed that conscientiousness and acceptability were high, and openness to experience, extroversion, and neuroticism were of medium level as personality traits among students at the University of Jordan.The results showed also that there was a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and its dimensions (Emotional knowledge, emotional regulation, empathy, social communication) and academic achievement among the students at Jordan University. It was noted that there was a positive, positive relationship between personal traits and their dimensions (agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to experience) and academic achievement. There was an inverse negative relationship between personality traits and their dimensions (extroversion and neuroticism) and academic achievement among the University of Jordan students. It was found that there was a statistically significant positive relationship at the level of (0.05) between the personality traits and their dimensions (agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to experience) and the dimensions of emotional intelligence, while it was found that there was an inverse negative relationship between the personality traits and their dimensions (extroversion and neuroticism) and the dimensions of emotional intelligence among a sample of students of the University of Jordan.The study recommended the necessity of enhancing the level of emotional intelligence skills among students.
